How to fix API_ID_INVALID: check Telegram ID and Hash

Check matching credentials, field types and the configuration actually loaded by your software before treating a client error as application failure.

Quick answer: Check that ID and Hash belong to the same app, were copied fully and are loaded by the running software. GetTGAPI can assist with result checks or existing apps; a configuration error does not automatically require another purchase.

This is a post-application configuration error

If the portal displayed ID and Hash but software returns API_ID_INVALID while connecting or signing in, check its configuration first. Telegram defines this as an invalid API ID/Hash combination. Official error meaning

It differs from a generic website ERROR. Buying another assisted application may not change software that continues reading old configuration.

Match the two values

  • ID goes in the application ID field, not a phone number, user ID or Bot ID.
  • Hash goes in the application Hash field, not an access code, Bot Token, verification code or session string.
  • Both values must come from the same application; do not mix separate saved pairs.

Check for copied labels, colons, surrounding quotes and newlines. Quotes required by configuration-file syntax differ from characters in the actual value; follow your software's instructions.

Looks correct but still fails?

Find the configuration actually read at runtime. Some programs prioritize environment variables, others files; an old process may still be running. Editing an unused file does not change the outgoing credentials.

Reload configuration or restart the program you manage as documented. Do not send full Hash values to a group for testing or post complete credential-bearing logs.

If you lost the original credentials

Read the same account's existing app through the portal. Find your ID and Hash. Retrieval does not generate new credentials.

Errors such as AUTH_KEY_UNREGISTERED, SESSION_EXPIRED and SESSION_PASSWORD_NEEDED belong to client sessions or two-step verification instead. Authorization flow

Confirm the fix

If the program moves to its required next step without this error, the configuration check has taken effect. That does not establish all permissions or guarantee later login has no other requirements.

For obtaining or retrieving your own application credentials, ask support and use an access code. Software bugs and account-session repairs are separate issues.
