Self-host Telegram Bot API Server with api_id and api_hash

Evaluate official Bot API Server self-hosting: application credentials, bot migration, local file paths, isolation and release checks before moving a production bot.

Quick answer: The official open-source Telegram Bot API Server can run on your infrastructure. Its service process needs your api_id and api_hash; bot requests still use a Bot Token. Self-hosting changes the service deployment, not the bot's identity or permissions.

Ordinary menus, notifications and support can normally use Telegram's hosted Bot API. Add another service when a concrete file-processing, network or operational requirement justifies it.

Evaluate the benefit and responsibility

Requirement What to assess
Different file capabilities Local-mode behavior, disk capacity and bandwidth
Separate bot processing and media storage Path mapping and access controls
Control releases and diagnostics Upgrades, monitoring, backups and recovery
Slow menus or messages Update delivery, business queues and network latency first

Self-hosting does not guarantee lower latency or remove Telegram limits. Diagnose the slow component before changing infrastructure.

Keep the two credential layers distinct

The service uses application credentials; business software calls it with the relevant bot's Token. Do not substitute one for the other or give every application unrestricted access to the service configuration.

Keep complete credentials out of public repositories, sample commands and monitoring output. Operators usually need configuration status and failure stages, not secret values.

A practical deployment sequence

  1. Select and record an official source version and follow its build instructions.
  2. Configure dedicated storage, a service user, capacity alerts and log retention.
  3. Restrict network access and provide a protected HTTPS entry for remote callers.
  4. Verify updates, replies, file transfers and restart recovery with a separate test bot.
  5. Plan migration so the old endpoint stops receiving before the business integration switches.

The official service accepts HTTP; remote HTTPS requires TLS termination. Check current version-specific options when implementing this sequence.

Migrate deliberately

Follow the official logOut and migration instructions when leaving Telegram's hosted service. Running competing servers for one bot can cause update-delivery problems. Migration between local servers also requires appropriate shutdown and state handling.

Deduplicate business events and tolerate temporary interruption. Rollback must respect the official migration rules too; changing an endpoint back is not automatically a complete recovery. Rehearse with a test bot first.

Handle local file paths safely

Local mode may return an absolute path on the Bot API host. Software in another container or machine cannot assume that path is readable. Use restricted shared storage or authenticated transfer, not arbitrary host paths exposed as public downloads.

Cleanup must avoid active transfers. Verify large files, full disks, cancellation and references after cleanup rather than testing only a text reply.

Obtain your application credentials

Follow the official application walkthrough. If application creation returns ERROR, contact GetTGAPI at gettgapi.com/en/help#contact, or use your access code at the application entry.

GetTGAPI assists with credentials. Infrastructure, deployment, monitoring and Bot Token management remain the operator's responsibility.
