API hash security: Telegram credentials, sessions and devices

Can api_hash expose your chats? Distinguish application credentials, sessions, Bot Tokens and login codes, then plan secure device revocation and encrypted data handling.

Quick answer: Possessing api_id and api_hash alone does not authorize your account or reveal its chats. Sessions, Bot Tokens, verification codes and two-step passwords have different roles. A stolen authorized session may allow continued account access.

Assess the entire workflow: what the software requests, where it stores sessions, who can read them and how authorization can be revoked.

Distinguish the credentials

Data Role Protection priority
api_id and api_hash Identify the developer application Do not treat them as user passwords or publish complete configurations
Login code and two-step password Complete applicable user authorization steps Enter only in a login flow you have verified
Session or authorization key Maintain an authorized account connection Restrict reading, transfers and backups
Bot Token Operate its bot Store server-side and respond to exposure appropriately

A client needs user authorization after application configuration. Conversely, giving someone a session can be risky even if you never separately sent them a login code.

Build device and privacy controls

Where permitted, a client can display authorizations, terminate other sessions and manage privacy or block settings. Device names are supporting information; use the returned authorization identity and current-session state to identify the target.

A newly logged-in session may be restricted from terminating other sessions. Explain the server's response and do not show a device as logged out before the operation succeeds.

Make logout unambiguous

  1. Distinguish closing the application, logging out its Telegram session and terminating another device.
  2. Show the account and affected device.
  3. Execute the appropriate official method and check the result.
  4. Stop related jobs and clean session data and caches according to the retention policy.
  5. Preserve a clear failed or uncertain state instead of merely removing a row from the interface.

Carry account identity in every operation. In a multi-account client, switching the visible account must not change the target of an already prepared action.

API Hash is not a chat decryption key

It is not a universal key for decrypting Telegram messages. Cloud chats, Secret Chats and your own database encryption use different mechanisms.

HTTPS does not turn a normal Bot conversation into a Secret Chat. Once your application reads data, it must protect caches, attachments, logs and backups. An end-to-end encryption claim needs specified endpoints and key holders.

Respond to suspected exposure

Identify the exposed item first. For a session leak or suspicious account access, review devices from a trusted official client and stop affected programs. For a Bot Token, follow BotFather's management process and update dependent services.

Do not claim that changing API Hash logs out every device. Application credentials, user authorizations and bot authorizations must be handled separately. Never post secrets publicly for diagnosis.

GetTGAPI application boundaries

GetTGAPI assists with the developer portal. Support does not need your chat history, session files or two-step password. Complete portal verification only in the current application flow and share redacted errors with staff.

Use gettgapi.com/en/redeem to apply or gettgapi.com/en/help#contact to contact support. After receiving credentials, independently assess any software you connect. See the application safety guide.
